This research analyzes the relationship between the Extended School Day and the development of curricular competencies in 6th grade students in the area of Social Sciences at the Politécnico Pastor Abajo, District 08-05 of Santiago, comparing learning outcomes during the 2012-2013 school year, the last year of the regular school day at the study site, and the graduates of the 2022-2023 school year. The study is conducted using a quantitative approach and a non-experimental, correlational design. The results reveal that, despite the extension of instructional hours, no significant improvements are observed in learning scores and the development of curricular competencies in Social Sciences. It is concluded that, although the Extended School Day has the potential to improve education, it is necessary to review and adjust pedagogical approaches and implementation conditions to achieve the desired objectives.
